Facilities Management Trainee - Spokane Tribal Member Opportunity


POSITION SUMMARY

The Facilities Management Trainee is part of the Spokane Tribe Casinos’ Tribal Mentorship/Training Program.  The Spokane Tribe Casino is committed to training and developing Spokane Tribal Members with the ultimate goal of providing management positions for Tribal Members. 

  The Facilities Management Trainee will work directly with and train with the Facilities Director.  The trainee will actively work alongside the Facilities Director in accomplishing tasks and responsibilities as assigned or required.  The Facilities Director oversees and manages the maintenance and EVS staff to ensure the casino facilities and systems operate properly. The Facilities Management Trainee  will be required to work in an office setting, review financials (P&L’s), and scheduling team members on repair assignments. Aside from maintenance duties, he is also responsible for coordinating with contractors on renovations, remodels and construction.

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Facilities Management Trainee position will work side by side with the Facilities Director in order to assist the Director in carrying out all required duties.  The Director performs all functions in accordance with applicable laws and gaming regulations, the mission statement, and objectives of the Spokane Tribe Casino as well as established policies, procedures, and controls.  The Trainee will

  • The primary duty is to ensure the smooth daily operation and guest appeal of the property.
  • Make specific recommendations to the Facilities Director about suggested changes and improvements in departmental controls and procedures for the overall benefit and improvement of all department projects.
  • Assist Facilities Director with hiring, training and mentoring of all staff.
  • Assist in providing support and leadership direction to staff.
  • Facilitate the flow of information throughout Facilities Department, by organizing and presiding over regularly scheduled meetings with the members of leadership team.
  • Strong technical skills in HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.
  • Makes sure all safety policies are followed.
  • Monitor and report to the Facilities Director on contract status and “red flags” or any delays or variances from timely and accurate document negotiation and execution. 
  • Assist Director in assuring that budget, project scope, project quality and schedule remain in alignment with departmental objectives and the client’s overall business needs.
  • Assist Director with ensuring budgets are planned and maintained and ordering of materials are done in accordance with internal purchasing controls.
  • Maintain and carry out operational policy for the Facilities and EVS Departments. 
  • Perform others duties as assigned by Facilities Director.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

We are accepting application packets from interested Enrolled Spokane Tribal Members.  We are looking for those that have an interest in the Facilities field and wish to learn more about the casino industry, with a goal of obtaining a management position at the Spokane Tribe Casino.  Applicants must demonstrate their dedication and willingness to commit to all required training.  This includes possibly training for a period of time at an out of state Casino managed by the Warner Group. 

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid WA State Driver’s license.
  • Must have some higher education, trade school experience, or a strong work history. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate a good work history with the Spokane Tribe of Indians and all Spokane Tribal entities.
  • Must not have any disciplinary actions or attendance issues in within the last 6 months (regardless of employer).
  • Employment verifications will be completed and must produce positive results.  
  • Must have a background in facilities work such as HVAC, Janitorial, Maintenance, or a Trade that is closely related to facilities. 
  • Trainee position will be a regular, full time employee of the Spokane Tribe Casino.  Trainee’s are subject to the same policies, procedures, licensing requirements, pre-employment requirements and integrity standards as other Spokane Tribe Casino employees.  In addition to being held accountable and held to the same standards as other employees, trainees will be held to a high standard of honesty, integrity and professionalism.  Trainees will be expected to show a high level of commitment and participation in the trainee program.

REGULATORY AND COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

In addition to the other duties described herein, each team member has the following responsibilities related to compliance with laws and regulations:

  • Must be able to provide authorization to work in the United States.
  • Employment is contingent on receiving and maintaining adequate licensing (Class B) from the STGC.
  • Must learn and ensure policies and procedures are being followed per the departments’ Internal Controls.
  • Must adhere to the Spokane Tribe Casino Employee Handbook and ensure staff is following policies and procedures as well. 
  • Must adhere to our customer service standards by providing excellent customer service.
  • Must interact with Guests and other Team Members in an upbeat and friendly manner.
  • The Security Manager must be proactive and identify problems and solutions and commit to communicating with the Facilities Director.
  • Attend required training sessions offered by the Spokane Tribal Casino.
  • Perform the duties described in compliance with local laws and regulations.
  • Have knowledge of the ordinances, regulations, laws, policies, and procedures relating to the Casino.
  • Take the necessary steps to ensure minors are not encouraged or permitted to gamble or loiter in gambling areas, drink alcoholic beverages, or purchase tobacco products.
  • Refer to the Internal Control System and Policy Manuals for guidance.
  • Take the appropriate steps to report exceptions, fraud, acts of wrongdoing, and potential violations of regulations or internal controls to the appropriate levels of management.
  • Uphold high standards of ethical behavior, demonstrate an understanding of the impacts of problem gambling, and have knowledge of the Casino’s programs to address problem gambling.
